Hi, I'm Jenny Hatfield, your host of harvest without the hustle. Where in episode six, my dear friend lemon price will be sharing how she overcame these questions. And learn how to soar her way to success. Lemon has learned how to handle fear.
Step out.
In faith from owning her own eight figure marketing agency. To walk in away from it because it wasn't aligning with her beliefs and what she felt God wanted her to be doing. Which is when she shifted her focus to God's ministry. Empowering women in the marketplace ministry. As a certified Kim tin speaker, radiant life and leadership coach lemon has learned how to empower not only herself, but her family. And the women, she leads as a certified radiant leader.
One of the biggest ministries of empowering and leading women has come through her, her amazing podcast called milk and honey, where she teaches Christian women seeking to balance leadership and body and embody the Proverbs 31. Women virtues. And deepen their faith through practical advice. But before we dive into hearing from lemon, I want to take you back to the time I battled the fear of public speaking. When I was in the third grade, my teacher Ms.
Bright, made us all come up to the microphone in front of everyone. And say, or our modification tables into the microphone. Which was hooked up to a tape player. Yes. I know. I'm dating myself. And after we recorded them and to the tape recorder, she would play them back for everyone in the class to hear. Well, it was finally my turn. I was absolutely terrified at going up in front of everyone. I cried for a half an hour in front of everyone.
And it ended up getting so nervous and upset. I peed my pants. It was at that time. My teacher, Ms. Bright, got down on her knees. Per her hands on each side of my face. Looked at me lovingly straighten the eyes and told me that she had the belief in me that I could do this. All I had to do was take a deep breath. And look at her and recite my modification tables. I remember. It was the first time I had ever had an adult, especially a teacher. Tell me, they had belief in me that I could achieve a hard thing. And that I would be successful.
So join me and grabbing your favorite beverage. Hitting the follow button above and dive in into episode six, to learn from lemon on how she scaled up. Plugged in and implemented the skills.
By plugging into one speaker course they kingdom speaker academy course. And how that can pivot and grow your business.
And land do not want in Forbes magazine. But twice.
Wow. Welcome, um, lemon to the harvest without the Hustle podcast. I'm excited that you're here and I'm just so excited to learn from you. So.
Go ahead. Oh, Jenny. I'm just honored to be here. I just love spending time with you.
Thank you. Um, you know, there's a few questions I'd like to ask you about, you know, your success because you've been in Forbes magazine now twice.
Crazy.
Yes, that is crazy lemon. Um, so I wanted to set it up here.
To ask you some questions , basically, so that, women on here. can learn how your growth has helped you with your momentum. The first question I wanted to ask you is
could you share a time when you faced a fear in your life and instead of, uh, letting it hold you back, you used it as fuel to drive success in your business?
Oh, yeah. Um, I, I feel like everything I have done has been scary. Um, every single thing I've done, I actually divorced my first husband when my business was brand new. And I was making like 500 a month to my name. And I just knew that I would, I had to do something different. God told me that I needed to move to Georgia.
And so I quit my fancy CMO job with a business that made no money and was leaving my husband all at one time, and that was six years ago and that decision alone. I mean, it was terrifying. I was alone, um, had no clue what I was doing. I moved to Georgia within 10 days of making that decision. And it was the most terrifying decision, but it has been the best decision that I could have ever possibly made for myself, to be honest, it is the.
I was really tossing up, actually, Jenny, this is crazy, between here and Southern California. And so I could have been next door to Molly and Michelle and things. Um, and God sent me to Georgia. And I think my life would have looked very different if I hadn't made that decision. But it was a truly terrifying decision that I made.
And it has been, I think that decision has fueled every bit of success I've ever had since. Wow.
Isn't it amazing how when you just take, um, When you pray to God and you take one decision and you actually listen to him and you're obedient to him, how that decision works out. Good.
Yes. Oh, my gosh. And it wasn't all like sunshine and rainbows either.
Right? Like, there was definitely like, really hard moments. There was things that didn't work out. There was, it definitely wasn't perfect. when I moved, but I know that every single thing that has happened the way that it was supposed to. And I knew God's hand was on it and things worked out exactly the way they were supposed to work out.
And I can look back and be just so eternally grateful for even the difficult moments. Yes,
and, and so can I throughout the, throughout my life. I mean, even, you know, where I, how I met my husband and everything, which is a whole other episode someday later for everyone to hear. But, um, you know, that was 1 thing that.
You know, I did, um, that just has built momentum in my life too. Um, and the other thing I was wondering about, you know, cause we're both part of Girl Power Alliance, GPA. Um, how has being part of the GPA, uh, Girl Power Alliance community, uh, contributed to the growth of your podcast and business leading to your recognition, you know, in Forbes magazine, not once, but
twice, isn't that great.
That's so crazy to hear still. Um, There's so many positive things that have happened being in Girl Power Alliance. I wish everybody could have seen me two years ago before I joined GPA because I, you know, I've been in business for a long time. I've been doing things for a while, but something just completely shifted when I, when I came here and I've been a very different person.
And then, um, that's how I ended up, I mean. My growth, my growth has been monumental. Um, and without me reaching out and like throwing it in people's faces, I've people reach out to me and they're like, Hey, I've been watching you for years. And I've watched your growth. I've watched your countenance change.
I've watched how you handle these terrible situations in your life. And I know whatever you're doing, I want to be a part of, which is really cool. But then when the speaker certification came up. I was like, and if in half, of course that happened when I argued with God about a podcast that I didn't even want to create and then the speaker certification shows up.
So I'm like, all right, I'm going to do it. And then I wasn't sure if I was actually going to do the certification piece. And then I had a client come, um, because I was on another podcast that paid me the exact amount of money I needed in order to attend the speaker certification. So I was like, well, that's divine timing.
I guess, I guess this is what I'm supposed to do. Um, cause the, the payment came in literally the day of, that they were cutting off registration. And then I end up with somebody. And so just doing all that training and speaking on stages, right, I spoke twice, um, during that week and they are three times during that week.
And it's just been huge to elevate myself. I have people come to me cause they've seen me speaking other places and it, it really helped me. I took my podcast episodes too, down from like. 30 to 45 minutes down to 15, 20 minutes, which has been huge. They're way more concise. They are way more impactful. The downloads have gone up.
And then that's how I ended up in Forbes. Not once, but twice.
I know it's just, you know, I'm a big fan of your podcast, milk and honey. And I love listening to you while I'm out milking my cows in the morning. And it's It's just such a refreshing, um, podcast. It's just so, um, and it's packed with so much information, you know, and leadership and communication skills and just everything you would need to, to build a, a business online.
And I really enjoy it. And I also remember going through. I think we were going through, I was going through your second round of Radiant Leadership Academy and just seeing your transformation through that, you know, because that was like my first round of Radiant Leadership Academy. And that's a 16 week, um, 16 week discipleship, um, class that we go through in, in our Girl Power Alliance community.
And, and just seeing you, the transformation and the breakthroughs going through that, I'm like, oh, I want to be her. I need this so much.
Oh, Jenny, if you guys, I told Jenny before we hit record, I said, when I grow up, I want to be Jenny Hatfield. So,
and I told her I wanted to be Lemon Price. And that she's been one of the biggest mentors of mine going through.
And so, um, another thing I wanted to learn too is because I know you haven't always been the biggest fan of network marketing. So tell me about the time you first heard about network marketing and what you thought it was, and then kind of go back in time for a moment. And can you recall what you first thought of when you learned what network marketing is and how would you describe network marketing now?
Oh, I love this. So I have my master's degree in marketing. And was the CMO of a tech company before I started my own agency. And so I was freelancing too while I was a CMO because that, you know, I had so much free time doing that. And as soon as I stepped into like freelancer world, all of a sudden I got all the copy and paste messages from one particular company.
And I was so turned off by it. I was so turned off by it. Not that the model in and of itself was bad. But it was like the heart posture and like the way people were showing up. And I feel differently about it now, but I mean, people, I was very irritated when people would say I have my own business and then tell me that they're in network marketing.
I'm like, you do not have your own business. Right. Like you did not, you don't get to pick the branding. You don't pick the pricing. You don't pick anything. You're not picking the product. Like if somebody sues, it's not you, it's the company. Like you're technically you don't own your own business. You're in sales and I'm fine with sales.
And so for me, that was like really irritating. And then too, I just, I didn't like how spammy and gross it felt. And so when I had, I had a Facebook group for Christian entrepreneurs. And I wouldn't allow network marketers in my community. I actually, Michelle and I joke about this now, I actually ghosted Michelle Shaffer back in 2020 when she was first starting Girl Power Alliance.
I ghosted her because I saw she was in network marketing and wanted nothing to do with her. Because I hated the, now I talk to her every day. It's weird if I actually don't talk to her. And so, but I hated the whole industry because I thought it was just scammy and gross and You know, I saw the stats, right?
It's like a 98 percent fail rate and like all of these things. And now that I'm in it, right. I feel very differently, which I, I also said no to Molly several times about joining Girl Power Alliance. Um, she, she talked to me every day for weeks. And then it was my husband actually, who told me to do it, who also was anti network marketing and is now in the community and building a team here, which is so funny how that works.
Um, but I will never forget my husband told me I should do it after everybody told me it would ruin my brand and everything about everything that I built. They said, it's all going to be destroyed if you join Girl Power Alliance, and I said, Oh, I just don't. I don't feel like that's right. You know, God's calling me here.
It's what I'm going to do. And now I love it. I love the leverage. I and I love what we do. I think. I think I still, the industry as a whole, and I think it has a lot of things that could work on because people still try to bait and switch me. I still get copy and paste messages. I still get like these icky things that I didn't like about it.
I still get, but I think what we're doing here is very different. I think it's very different. What we're doing, the heart posture is different. The training here is different. The love for the industry is different and I can see like the freedom, right? Like my husband. It's a truck driver and so he does well and but he sees this as a way for him to come home full time like by June, he's like, I'm gonna be home full time.
This will replace what I'm doing by the summertime. I'm like, this is incredible. You know, like, I'm like, my kids are going to get both parents fully present and engaged. And even my youngest last night, it was so funny. He, he knew I was close. I'm close to hitting a goal that I have personally. And he came in my office last night and gave me a pep talk.
And he said, okay, mom, he said, here's what I need you to do. And he starts giving, he's like, I need you to have, you know, show these people, um, that you're confident in yourself and that you can, you're, you're the person that's going to help them hit their goals. So they need to have confidence in you. You need to go deep with them and find out if they need this.
He's like, and then you need to make sure that they're actually committed to the process. He goes, because you don't have time to waste on people who are not committed. And I was like, wow, okay, and he's 10 and I was dying. I'm like, look at how this is like spilled over and trickled into him. And then he asked me, it was so funny, he said, um, I, my 10 year old is like, so he's so involved, but he said, mom, he goes, what are you going to do if you hit this goal?
And I said, well, I said, you know, cause we're buying a house in the spring. And I said, well, I said, it'll allow me actually to pay off. Another piece of debt that we have, like, it'll, it'll allow us to pay off a bill and everything. Um, and that just gets us another step closer to dad coming home full time.
And he said, great, then that's what I need you to think about. He's like, I need you to keep in mind that like, dad's going to be home. If you can do this. And I was like, Okay. And so I have all this family buy in and now I love it. I just, I love everything about it. My kids get to see what it's doing. Um, I get testimonials from people who have taken my courses and stuff in GPA.
I give voice memos all the time. And they get to hear it and they're like, the work that you're doing is so important.
Wow. That's amazing. You know, when, when you can, um, change mindset in your child, like that so much, cause I know he's had some trauma in his life too. Um, and so just to, I mean, just think what, because of GPA, how he is going to grow up different than, than what he probably wouldn't have had without GPA.
That's the
amazing part. Oh my gosh. Yes. He talks to Michelle and Molly all the time. He talks, he takes my phone all the time. He was talking to Molly last night. And he's like, Hey Molly, like, this is how I'm encouraging my mom today. Like, can you help me encourage my mom today? And it's just, it's so cool to see.
Such a difference. They pop in on zoom meetings. If you know, if they know it's Molly or Michelle or, you know, somebody that they know, um, Michelle's flown here. So they've hung out with her twice now in person. And I just think it's so cool that the whole family is like completely bought into what we're doing.
Yep. And
Molly is the other, uh, co founder of, um, Girl Power Alliance. That's who she's, that's who Lemon's talking about. Um, and then Michelle Schaefer, of course, is, uh, the founder of, of Girl Power Alliance. And so how do you take somebody like to go deep, you know, what you were saying, you know, that you take somebody and then go deep with them so that they can
grow?
I think it's really about being interested in them. And I don't think that's something you can fake. To be honest, like, I think you have to be genuinely interested in the people you're talking to and like actually want to get to know them and actually want to serve them. There's been so many people I've talked to where GPA actually isn't the solution that they need right now.
And like, and so I think when you can build that sort of rapport and that kind of trust, like they know that I'm not here to sell them something, um, that I'm not looking at them like a dollar sign. I'm not looking at them. Like they're going to help me hit my next goal or. Whatever it is, like, we're actually having a real relationship, a real connection.
I just had this experience this morning, actually, right before we hit record. I was texting with somebody locally, and we met in a local homesteading community. Or like it was big, there's like 50, 000 people in it. And then there's a, a group chat for people in Georgia. Well, she happens to live only like 15 minutes away from me, which is wild that in this homesteading and we live in a rural part of Georgia.
And so in a home, in a giant homesteading group, I happen to meet somebody in another part of rural Georgia that is like 15 minutes from my house. And so her and I were like, well, let's get together. Like, you know, I would love to actually meet up and have a conversation with somebody, you know, in person, cause that doesn't happen very often.
And then she starts telling me like, Oh, you know, I saw you were in Forbes because of your podcast, like, tell me about your podcast. So I was telling her about it. She goes and listens and she's like, you know, what's so funny. She's like, I've been in business. Since July, um, she partnered with another company and she's like, it's all very new age.
She's like, and I feel like God has been calling and it's personal development, but it's all new age, personal development. And she's a believer. And she's like, I feel like God is calling me to do something different. And she's like, so tell me more about you and what you're doing. I did not start that conversation in any way, shape or form to pitch her GPA.
And so we were just having, we were bonding over chickens. And like, you know, that's what we were, when cattle, that's what we were bonding over. And then through that, she saw again, my growth, she got to know me in my heart and was like, okay, I know that God's calling me to do something different. And I think that something different could be what you're doing. Wow. And I think that's, I think that makes a difference. Like, you know, I mean, her and I, we're still going to dinner next week, like we're hanging out, we're doing things, but she came to me about what I'm doing here because I was authentic and deep with her and real with her about like. Other things and she could do the same with me.
Yep, and I think that has probably been a lesson that I have learned here in these last 6 months and, um, going through, you know, Radiant Leadership Academy and, and also, you know, the Kingdom Speaker Academy going through, through those 2 academies, I think that taught me, you know, um, about not striving for people, uh, for the money part, because, you know, I've been in the network marketing, um, industry for almost 3 decades now, and so, you You know, but I never learned leadership until I came into Girl Power Alliance and it wasn't until, you know, this past fall and winter where all of a sudden, you know, I learned that, you know, you have to have heart posture and it has to really come from the heart and and not to, um, you And not to go after people for the money because they can smell that when you do that.
And, and that's how I was going after them because, you know, I wanted to get out of debt, you know, so that I could bring my farmer home so that he could just farm for fun. That he wouldn't have the financial stress. That's my why. My why is, you know, so that, you know, my farmer doesn't have the financial stress of farming.
He could just farm for fun. And then I can have fun just playing with my grandbabies. And that, and so. And just recently now people are, are, I think are seeing my, my switch, you know, as nothing like I've been doing differently, but all of a sudden , they're seeing the real light of Jesus coming through me. And, and there, and I have more people reaching out and saying, Hey, you know, what's this all about?
Because I've seen a change in
you. Yeah. I think that makes a big difference. I think it's, I tell my kids this all the time. I talked to my husband, I talked to my team about this all the time. I think it's sanctification in real time that people want to see, right? As believers, especially, I think it's really important to own, like, we're not always going to get it right.
Where we might have commission breath, we might, you know, like we might come from a place that is inauthentic to the reason God called us here and it's okay to own that and then be in a different place and let people see, like, I'm in a different place. I'm treating you different. I'm I just feel different.
I think especially as believers, like we're called to be different. Like, if you are interacting with a believer, and it's the same interaction that you have with somebody who's not a believer, then that that's a problem. That's a problem. And so for us, yeah, I think it, I think it's a heart pressure. I think it's a seeing people as people.
That makes a huge difference, um, and really just taking it like, like helping them actually solve whatever problem it is they have, or just being a friend that they can talk to makes a huge difference and then you don't have to go out and chase people or anything like that because people will just, um, I,
I believe you're right.
And I know it shows up. It shows up and, you know, for a long time, I kind of struggled with that and I finally, you know, um, just recently just got it and just like, oh, that's what lemon and these leaders are talking about. Okay. I get it now. And and that and can can you share how your experience with the kingdom speaker academy contributed to enhancing your speaking and communication skills?
Um, you know, because we both went through the 1st round back in the fall of. Last year, October 2023 and, um, and just how has that growth helped
you? Yeah, I think it has made, I mean, you said you listen to my podcast and it is jam packed full of things. I have been, I mean, yeah, my podcast is better. I interview better than I have.
And I've been in the communication space for a long time. I mean, since 2011. And so you can constantly improve. You can constantly do things better. And so for me, it's been huge as I show up and speak more. And October was a crazy time period for me, because right when that certification happened, I think it's like four or five other speaking engagements in the same month.
And I was like, it was a lot. And so I know it was a, I slept a lot in October. I'm like my introverted self. That was a lot of, that was a lot of public speaking for me. And so it's been huge for that reason. And then also, I mean. It is the reason I ended up in Forbes, not once, but twice. It's because of the, the conciseness of the podcast and the podcast grew really quickly.
Um, I'm, I'm very excited about it. My downloads went from like 200 downloads an episode to about 500 in an episode, which is amazing. I'm very excited about it. And it's because I'm getting information out quickly. It's very clear. It's very concise. And the call to action is clear. I'm getting leads every single day because of the podcast.
And so it's been huge for me. It's been so huge for me. And again, it's a thing that I drug my feet on. I didn't want to, I didn't want to do KSA. I didn't want to start my podcast. Like I didn't want to do any of those things. And God kept pushing. He was like, here you go. Here you go. It's time lemon. And I'm so grateful that I did because I can, I think it's really helped when I'm, when I'm doing calls or.
Or anything like that. I think that's also been huge. So, um, I will just, you know, here you get, you get this version of me, but then like when I host the opportunity call for the company, my energy is completely different. It's completely different. It's really helped me decide how I'm going to show up and when I'm going to show up and what parts of myself to pull out in order to give everybody the best experience I possibly can.
I know you're, I have seen you just blossom from. From what we took in and what we learned and I think it also it helped me just give me the confidence to even do a podcast to begin with and then be able to go back and take those skills and put them into my podcast, and to learn, you know, basically to learn like, okay, how can I do it better?
And then know, you know, when, um, I haven't done something quite like I wanted it to and then to go back and be able to do it even better, like the next time. And then to give myself grace to know that, Hey, it's okay. It's a
learning curve. Yeah. I think that's huge. And I've seen you change so much, Jenny, in just the last six months, you are a totally different woman than the woman that I first met in like July of 2022, you are a radically different woman.
In the best way possible. I just feel like you are stepping into more of who God just called you to be and the things that you were supposed to do. And I am so honored that I get the privilege to know you and call you my friend. Thanks.
I feel the same way. Um, so in closing, uh, what is 1 way that someone can reach out and connect with you?
Yeah. So anywhere on social media is the best way to go. Um, because if you type, if you go to your Google and you type in lemon price, you will get the price of lemons at your local grocery store. So you can either go to social media or come connect with me on my website at lemonprice. co or come listen to the podcast, milk and honey with lemon.
Um, come hang out. We're a fun time. Jenny does when she's milking her cow. So come hang out with us.
