Friend, Welcome back to Harvest Without the Hustle, the podcast for empty nester Christian mompreneurs who are ready to build a thriving business without sacrificing their faith, family, or sanity.

This week, we’re kicking off what will be a very busy season on our farm. Spring hauling of the manure pit, tilling the land, and planting new crops are all on the agenda, leading up to the hay harvest season of summer. While I no longer help with manure hauling, my youngest son, Aaron, has taken over that job—and he actually enjoys it! But before we can plant anything new, we first have to clear out the old. That first step—cleaning out the manure pit—isn’t glamorous, but it’s essential.

Friend, leadership is a lot like farming—before the harvest comes the preparation. If we don’t first clear out distractions, doubts, and what I like to call skunk thoughts (those negative beliefs that repel instead of attract), we won’t create the impact or income we desire. Just like we prepare the land for planting, we must prepare our hearts and minds to lead with clarity and purpose.

Friend, If you’ve been feeling exhausted from distractions keeping you from pursuing your network marketing business the way you want to… if you don’t feel bold enough to share what God is teaching you… or if you’re frustrated trying to show up on social media without sounding salesy—friend, you’re in the right place.

Friend, Grab your favorite beverage, a journal, or your phone to jot some down notes—especially if your hands are busy like mine often are when I’m listening to podcasts while milking cows, walking my dogs, or folding endless piles of farm laundry.

Before we dive in, let me introduce myself properly. Hi, I’m Ginny Hatfield—a once overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure empty-nester Christian mompreneur who was stuck in the hustle, trying to make my network marketing business seem appealing on social media. As a farm wife of close to 38 years, mom, grandma, and Kingdom-driven entrepreneur, my mission is to equip you with faith-based strategies and resources to grow personally and professionally—without sacrificing what matters most.

Whether you need help managing your time, stewarding your finances wisely, or creating income streams that align with your calling, I’m here to support you.

So, friend, get comfortable and let’s dive into today’s episode by asking you this question: Are You Leading Your Business God’s Way or Getting Distracted by the Hustle?

Today, Friend,  we’re diving into Ezra 5-7 to unpack three key leadership lessons every network marketer needs to know in order to build a business that stands firm in faith. But before we begin, let me ask you three important questions to ponder as we go through today’s episode:

1️⃣ Are you allowing distractions to keep you from the work God is calling you to do? 2️⃣ Are you bold in speaking up about who you serve—God first, people second? 3️⃣ Are you focusing on the right foundation, or are you building on shifting sand?

Let’s explore these questions together, friend, as we learn from Ezra.

Lesson #1: Encouragement and Focus – Ezra 5:1-2

Friend, In Ezra 5:1-2 reminds us that prophecy strengthens, encourages, and comforts. The Jews were called to rebuild the temple, but they faced opposition. When we do the work of the Lord—whether it’s in ministry or business—resistance will come. Distractions, doubts, and even opposition from others may try to derail us. But as leaders, we must focus on God’s purpose and not be sidetracked by difficulties.

💡 Application for Network Marketers: If you don’t know why you’re building your business, you’ll be easily swayed by distractions. Just like Ezra and the Israelites stayed focused on rebuilding the temple, you must stay committed to your calling. When obstacles arise, remind yourself of your why and trust that God will accomplish His purposes through you.

✍️ Journal Prompt: Take a moment to write a letter to God, sharing your heart and intentions for your business. Ask Him for guidance, wisdom, and direction in using this business to serve His daughters. Seek His Word for instruction, and trust Him to lead you in building a business that honors Him and advances His Kingdom.

Lesson #2: Boldness in Identity – Ezra 5:11

When questioned about their work, the Israelites boldly declared, “We are servants of the God of heaven and earth.” They didn’t let fear, doubt, or the opinions of others stop them. They stood firm in their identity and kept building, even when faced with distractions and opposition.

💡 Application for Network Marketers: Your business isn’t just about making sales—it’s a platform to glorify God, serve others, and step into your Kingdom purpose. But are distractions, fear of rejection, or worries about what others think keeping you from showing up boldly? If we try to please everyone, we become ineffective. Instead, be confident in who you serve—God first, people second—and stay committed to the work He’s called you to.

✍️ Journal Prompt: What distractions—whether internal fears or external pressures—are keeping you from fully showing up in your business? Write them down and ask God to reveal how you can refocus on building a strong foundation in both your faith and your network marketing journey.

Lesson #3: Preparation Leads to Promotion – Ezra 7:6-10

Ezra was an effective leader because he was a dedicated student of God’s Word, determined to obey it, and committed to teaching others. His preparation led to favor and promotion. The king gave him the authority, provision, and resources needed to fulfill his mission.

💡 Application for Network Marketers: Before you can effectively lead others, you must first prepare yourself. Are you investing time in learning leadership skills? Are you applying what you learn? Are you mentoring others so they don’t have to struggle the way you did? Success in network marketing isn’t about personal achievement; it’s about commitment to growth, obedience, and service.

✍️ Journal Prompt: How are you preparing yourself for the leadership role God is calling you to in your business? Write down the ways you are currently investing in your growth—spiritually, personally, and professionally. Then, ask yourself: What areas do I need to strengthen so I can lead with confidence and serve others well? Seek God’s wisdom and write a plan for your next steps.

Here are three leadership lessons from Ezra that you can apply to your network marketing business, friend:

1. Commit to Lifelong Learning

Ezra didn’t just glance at God’s Word—he studied it deeply. He knew that to lead well, he first had to be equipped with wisdom and truth. The same goes for you in your business. If you want to serve others effectively, commit to learning—whether it’s leadership skills, personal development, or how to share your faith boldly. Your business will grow when you grow.

2. Apply What You Learn:

Ezra didn’t just gain knowledge—he lived it out. He was intentional about applying God’s commands to his own life. In network marketing, it’s not enough to just watch trainings or read personal growth books—you have to implement what you learn. Are you leading by example? Are you showing up with integrity, consistency, and a heart to serve? The best way to inspire your team is by modeling the habits and mindset you want them to adopt.

3. Teach and Serve First:

Ezra wasn’t just a student—he was also a teacher. He shared what he learned so others could grow. Friend, your business is about more than just making sales—it’s about serving others. When you see your team or audience struggling with overwhelm, fear, or frustration, be the leader who guides them back to the basics. Encourage real conversations. Listen first. Instead of focusing on selling, focus on helping. When you lead with service, sales will naturally follow.

💡 Reflection: Which of these leadership principles do you need to strengthen in your own business? How can you shift your focus from selling to truly serving others?
